About

I believe that this country needs a President and Vice President that is for the people instead of against them.

We’ve suffered at the hands of Republicans for the last 8 years; a political party who has mastered the art of telling you the exact opposite of the truth. They claim to be the party of fiscal responsibility yet they’ve taken the surplus that the Democrats had grown for our country, destroyed it, and plunged us into staggering debt- while corporations that Dick Cheney is associated with (such as Halliburton and big oil) have made record-setting profits through foreign and energy policy choices made at least in part by Cheney himself. Meanwhile, families are trying to afford skyrocketing prices of their and their children’s basic needs: food, clothes and a roof over their heads.

The Republicans have sat idly by while corporations have shipped jobs overseas and closed plants and factories across the US. The Democrats want to implement measures that will make it beneficial to these businesses to keep their plants and factories open here at home in the US.

The Conservatives want to overturn Roe v. Wade without providing any system of ensuring that the father of the baby will be forced to meet his responsibilities as well as the mother. Nobody is “pro abortion”, but of course the Conservatives want to paint Liberals that way. The truth of the matter is that overturning Roe v. Wade and outlawing abortion will only eliminate choice for the woman, while the father will continue to have the option of bailing out the day after the baby is conceived, if he wishes. If the government wants to get involved, then it should complete its’ half-measure and insist that not only the female endures 9 months of pregnancy and delivering the baby, but that the male is also held accountable no matter what the plans are after the delivery; whether the mother chooses to keep the baby or put the baby up for adoption. This can be accomplished through DNA testing and a database and enforcement of laws. Until then, the Conservatives “pro life” mantra will be nothing but a half-measure; ineffective, unfair and pandering.

As a woman, I find the nomination of Sarah Palin absurd and offensive. It is a slap in the face to women everywhere. The Republican party has proven once again that it believes not only that the voters are stupid but that women in particular are mindless and shallow enough to vote for a female simply because of her gender. John McCain has voted against women’s interests for 26 years.

As if that weren’t enough, the histrionic faux outrage on the part of the McCain campaign is embarrassing, with its’ shrill cries of sexism for everything from an SNL skit to questioning Sarah Palin’s credentials. It’s shameful and embarrassing to watch a political campaign demean women by insisting they should not be held to the same standards as any other Vice Presidential candidate.

The most sexist element in this election is Sarah Palin herself. Who exchanged terms like “world peace”, “safety”, and “prosperity” in their acceptance speech for terms like “lipstick”, “soccer mom” and “PTA”? Not the media. And God forbid you ask her

It’s time for change. Real change. John McCain is a proven liar to the point that he’s being excoriated by even Conservative pundits and columnists. Sarah Palin is a desperate last-minute ploy.

Unfortunately for the Republicans, women aren’t stupid.
